How do i stop my skin itching so much after a bath or shower?

My wife would like to know how to stop her skin from itching so much after a bath or shower. As soon as she begins to dry herself the itching starts and lasts for about 30 minutes. She says its unbearable. Any advice ( apart from the obvious dont have a bath or shower ). Thanks

How do i stop my skin itching so much after a bath or shower?
It's soap or water. If she has problem even without soap, then it's water. Does she have problems when she goes out of town and use different water? There are some water softening device you can install for water supply in your house, but, it's rather expensive. Google and see if there is some kind of water softening you can buy just for shower head.
Reply:could be a medical condition, but more likely than not i would say EXFOLIATE.
Reply:Try lotion the soaps maybe washing away the positve oils in her skin causing her body to itch seems to worse during winter
Reply:It's the soap she uses. I would try a less powerful soap. It could be that she doesn't wash the soap off enough too.
Reply:i know what she means mine does the same thing. i think its the water. we use city water and i think they put too much bleach in the water supply. i just use lotions.
Reply:I found I'd get itchy when I made the water too hot.

I try to use bath products that aren't too strong or perfumed.

hope this helps
Reply:try talk power
Reply:change your soap its obviously irritating you
Reply:I had this problem too! I found that moisturising before and after a shower or bath worked to some extent. Also try not having the water too warm. If all else fails check with your G.P about taking an anti- histamine. Some are available without prescription. Hope this helps.
Reply:get fragrance free products, simple are really good, and use a good moisturiser..... also fragance free...

and dont 'wash' or 'dry' to hard!!
Reply:It sounds like she is allergic to lanoline in soap and shower washes, this is animal fat and can irritate the skin, there are some lanoline free soaps and washes on the market, ask at your nearest Boots. T.he other option is to dry her down and then rub moisturiser over her whole body, lanoline tends to dry out her skin and it may be that her skin is just too dehydrated after a shower
Reply:a cooler shower should help

plus colder weather makes our skin drier

lots of lotion!
Reply:tell your wife to use palmers butter cocoa body moisturiser after she has dried herself. my black friends swear by it. if this does not work go to the doctor as she may have a skin problem.
Reply:Oh dear! You need a chemical free soap. Try health shops for those or Holland and Barrett on line.
Reply:Is your water very hard? My daughter and I get this especially when it starts getting cold. I buy horribly expensive soaps from the pharmacy, which help a lot and something called Aveeno Colloidial which is like oaty powder that you put in the bath water. The doctor advised cold cream too. All this does help but we're still itchy until the weather warms up. The doctor says there's not a lot you can do about it.
Reply:I suspect that she uses a lot of soap or shower gel. These are nothing more than Chemical cocktails and contain all kinds of chemicals any of which could make you itch.

If she washes her hair every time she has a shower the same applies with shampoo. Also if the water is too hot this can have a similar effect.

Try showering with cooler water and use SIMPLE soap from Sainsbury's. Also try to not to apply loads of soap to get a big lather.

Hope this helps you, it helped me.
Reply:Tell her to put moisturizing lotion on everywhere she is itchy and that should help. Your skin need moisture and a shower or bath pretty much takes some out and she might need more.
Reply:maybe as it starts when she is drying herself it could be the washing powder, try a non bio, or fairy if it dosent clear up, i suggest a visit to dr. good luck.
Reply:believe it or not the water's too hot. and is stripping away the natural oils that keep the skin cool and calm.
Reply:she might need to use a mousterizing body lotion after bathing or showering..
Reply:well some people do not need to shower everyday. If she chooses to take a shower everyday maybe she should use a soap that is more mild live Ivory. Maybe she should go to the doctor and see if it is dermatitis condition. In the winter unless she is very active and sweats a lot she may not need to shower as much. If she does continue to shower maybe it is her shampoo that is causing it or the cream rinse. Make sure she stands and rinses very well. Also not use extremely hot water another solution. When all else fails go get it checked out.
Reply:its the detergents in bath products. I usually have to have showers or have a bath in just water because i'm allergic to all the soaps and things. The main cause is one called sodium laureth sulfate, its in most things, especially shampoos, avoid these chemicals and you'll be fine. If you feel sick as well, i would say this is definitely the cause.
Reply:probably u are allegic wiith the soap u are using. try to change what u are using. get something with hypo allergenic. try it! it may work.. if not u gotta go to dermatologist. or always using moisturizer cream.. i use to have itchiness and i was scared that it may create a scars. so i went to the doctor he gave me a medicine to reduce my itchiess so i may not scracth it. and a cream that really works all doctors can give u something like that. if it's worst it may have something to do with ur sweat that creates itchiness.
Reply:use soap or bodywash with moisturizer in it
Reply:interesting...tell her to scratch the itch
Reply:its a problem usually caused by having the water too hot
Reply:Allergic reaction to the type of water and/or cleansing solution/soap. Also the possibility of mites in the bedding that are within the epidermal layer. Start with a body wash instead of a soap, Check to see the quality and hardness of the municipal water supply many of which are loaded with high levels of chlorine and other purifying agents. If you own your own home you may have to invest in a water softener. After that if the problem persists have your mattress and bedding treated for microscopic parasites that imbed themselves in the skin.
Reply:Exactly what some of them above said. Could be the hot water (chemicals in it to keep it from exchanging heat too fast) or strong soaps. Try a different soap, or a soap free (glycerine containing) products. Moisturize when skin is still moist.
Reply:Changed you current used soap...
Reply:My grandma has the same problem and I got her Curel. You can also use Eucerin, they both work great. My boyfriend and my friend also use them. They have eczema and both moisturisers work for them.

Some people have answered it's because of hot or cold water, it doesn't matter how cold or hot the water is, you will itch if you have eczema regardless. I hope you take my advice and try Curel or Eucerin. Good luck!
