Our 4 year old dog has severe skin itching & lesions. The Vet gave him shots that made it worse. Please help?

My father's dog who is 4 years old suddenly developed severe skin itching. He started biting himself. He was taken to a hospital where a vet administered shots for 3 days. The itching seemed to cease. However on the 4th day, another vet decided to change the shot. Thereafter he developed severe lesions especially in the groin. The itching is extremely severe and he is in pain and is getting aggressive. He cannot keep food down. The only thing that seems to help is a herbal prickly heat powder that somewhat seems to soothe him. However he is very restless and hurting from the itching and sores. These are red, inflamed and oozing.

He was a stray and we got him as a puppy and seems to be a mixed breed. We do not want to take him back to the vet as the shots caused this aggravation. We tried to put amla (indian gooseberry powder) and neem powder but it made it sting even more. Are there any herbal remedies or medicines that can help?

Without a diagnosis it would be impossible for me to recommend anything.

Many many things can cause skin issues (food, allergens, bacteria, infection, fleas, etc.). Each issue will have its own treatment plan.
Reply:Try a different food, one of very high quality. Something like Canidae, which claims to cure skin conditions.
Reply:There are no remedies, herbal or any other kind, that can help when there's no diagnosis as to what's causing it.

Since the last vet you went to obviously didn't help this poor dog, go to a different vet! If this dog is in so much pain that it's causing aggression, he needs help desperately.
Reply:Did the vet ever address food allergies before doing shots? Good lord!

What does the dog eat? If its got common allergens like wheat or corn that would be the first thing to change, either by going to a high end dry food or canned food. You may also need to look into novel proteins like duck, rabbit, lamb or venison.

Try doing a google search for dog food allergies
Reply:Take him to the orignal vet. Find out what they were giving him that seems to help. Demand that to be given agian. Of course he is becoming aggressive... hes in pain...you get cranky when you hurt don't you? You need to find out what the is causing the skin problem before you can treat it... and before the open wounds become infected...
