Does oatmeal rubbed on to the skin really stop itching?

I have eczema and was wondering if this would help in anyway??

Does oatmeal rubbed on to the skin really stop itching?
Try cortizone instead. I have Psoriasis, which is worse and it works, just try not to get a greasy tube.
Reply:I have eczema too. Try using Aveeno lotion and body wash. It has oatmeal in it and it helps some.
Reply:Its usually best if you use the packet made for soaking. Just plain oatmeal probably doesn't work to well plus I could imagine that it would get messy.

Using cortisone may heal it fast but it only reduces redness and swelling, it does not reduce the amount that it itches.
Reply:I've heard it does. Hey, it's worth a try....nothing ventured nothing gained.
Reply:This could help with a tad of water added to it, but I dont know that much about your skin disorder.. But, if you get itchy, and have like rashes from your skin problem you might want to try "Oxypor" for this problem.. My Mom has psoriasis, and breaks out in rashes, and its also very itchy!! So, she orders this from the Walgreens pharmacy, and this not only takes away the "Itchy's" but it takes away the break-outs too!! Now mind you it does leave a stain on my Mom's skin, but that too will eventually go away......This Oxypor is a wonder medicine for her break-out's!!! So, if I were you, I'd give this a try, and if you cant afford it, then buy some "Calamine Lotion" , it should only be a couple of bucks, and people usually use this for like the chicken pox, and the like, and it dries out the skin for those sorts of break-outs... but if you were looking to use the oatmeal rub, than that's what people use for their children's chicken pox outbreaks too!! So, Calamine lotion, oatmeal rub, or oxypor, any one of those should be suffice.. The Calamine Lotion you can get in the medicine isle of any pharmacy stores, and it comes in a pink bottle with like a brown lid.. Works great for things like this, and its only a couple bucks!! Oxypor is a bit more expensive but if you could ever afford to order it, it would definately be worth every penny!! Atleast that's what my Mom says!! Good Luck to you, hun!!! Smile!!
Reply:eucerin eucerin eucerin!!! I can't stress that enough. Some of your other fancy schmancy lotions may smell good and even help for a while but they are packed full of different chemicals, dyes, and scents that for a person like you

are public enemy number one

switch your detergent for your clothes to something that is DYE FREE and SCENT FREE. I use Dreft.

In small doses Eucerin lotion is amazing to help prevent dry spells, cracking and bleeding

the tip to getting relief is constant moisturizing along with rx drugs if needed and super hydration of your body!

The dryer you get ...the worse the situation gets. which is why people like us suffer so terribly in the winter months.

nothing more painful then a flare up in the winter season while you are wearing a sweater or anything that constantly rubs.

Exzema for some of us can also be linked to stress..I get patches on my eye lids and chin whenever I'm stressed...like prom, graduation, weddings, funerals...you know every possible event where I have to show my face lol

oatmeal is very helpful to relieve itching but in your case

STAY CLEAR!!!!!!!!!! and any doctor will tell you the same! Mine did!

oatmeal is used mostly to relieve itching and to DRY UP weeping or pus spots from things like:

Poison Ivy/Oak/Sumac

and even chicken pocks

They even sell packets of it for bath water (aveno)

I wouldnt suggest it at all. while it may provide relief it can actually cause further irritation through constant drying of your skin even after you've bathed!

Ice works as well for constant itching if you don't have any o.t.c lotions. remember those otc lotions have drying agents in them to make them act quickly (look for alcohol based ingredients on the tubes)

rub the eucerin lotion on the area...get a nice padded ice pack and put it on the area for a while...the lotion and the ice together will provide you with some relief
Reply:Well, I have heard of Aveeno Oatmeal baths %26amp; creams helping with itching... so it could be worth a try. These probably have other added ingredients besides oatmeal, however.

Goodluck!
