Which natural remedy can be used for a cat with skin erruptions and itching?

It really depends on the cause.

It could be a number of things - I suggest you see your vet to give a cause. If you explain that you want a natural remedy, there are vets who specialise in this area, and they will probably be able to sort something out for you.

If the cause is fleas, pennyroyal oil is a natural remedy. However, it should not be used if the pet or any other living creature in the house is pregnant. Dilute a few drops of pennyroyal oil in a carrier oil (eg olive oil) and rub through the coat. Also wash all bedding in hot water, and clean the carpet and furniture with steam (to try and kill eggs). Diatomaceous earth (available from garden centres) can also help reduce flea numbers. If your cat goes outside, this should be used in places she rests outside to kill fleas and flea eggs.

It could also be mange (especially if your cat has contact with foxes, wombats, skunks, etc). Not much you can do for this except to see a vet, there aren't any natural remedies and it will make your cat very uncomfortable. It can also affect people!

Another possible cause is ringworm, which is a fungal infection, not a worm. Some people say that tea-tree oil is a good antifungal natural remedy, but it's poisonous if they lick it off, so I would suggest using a tea-tree oil bath liquid and make sure to rinse well. I have not found tea-tree to be particularly effective as an antifungal, however.

Another possible cause is bacterial skin infection. Manuka honey has antibacterial activity, but could be very messy to apply. Once again, I would suggest seeing your vet for a solution here.

Oatmeal, fuller's earth, seaweed gels and aloe vera are generally soothing compounds, and also good for dry skin. However, I would be more concerned to find out what the underlying cause is and treat that.

Don't be tempted to use garlic. It is poisonous for cats.

Good Luck
Reply:Take that poor thing to a vet. How would you like to have that going on with your body? If you can't afford to take it to the vet for care it deserves find it a loving home that will.
Reply:I know it's hard, but BATHE them in a salt water. Take about 2 cups of warm water, and about 4 tablespoons of water, ( if you are using a tub, just measure it out) pour it over the itchy spots. They will thank you. What do humans do for a really sore throat? Gargle w/ salt water!!
Reply:For wounds on my kittens, I use tea tree oil, very little though, it goes along way. A good way to get rid of dry itchy skin, as long as its not a severe medical condition would be to add a bit of vegetable oil to the kitty's food. It will moisturize skin from the inside out.
