I have burning, itching, and red dry skin around my eyes. It's worst on my eyelids and it's very painful.

I've had this condition once before about a week and a half ago. It gets worse for about 2 days and gets redder, more painful with burning, and my eyes swell. Then it gets so dry my skin peels and then it begins to heal and takes about 3 days to heal. I discontinued using anything that was new after the first painful bout, but now it's back again. What can it be?

Because it's around your eyes, and it has re-occurred,you really need to get to your MD's office and have this checked out.It could be several things ,and you shouldn't put just any medicines around the eyes, there too important to risk your sight. Take care. SW RNP
Reply:Sounds like you might be getting pinkeye or having an alergic reaction to something, go see a doctor. It could be anything from a cleaner at work used on surfaces, to a food alergy, you should go have an alergy test done by your Doctor.
Reply:Leslie,

I have had the same condition and my physician told me to purchase some Cortisone 10 ointment and apply it to the affected areas. The itching and peeling stopped about 3 days later. I believe it is due to the change of weather and then rubbing our eyes, which makes it worsen.
Reply:could be an allergy to something outside, or at work. call your doctor make sure. one call wont hurt to ask someone that really knows what they are doing.
Reply:You have dermatitis. It could be eczema or psoriasis the condition frequently starts as you describe. Only a dermatologist can give you a diagnosis. See your doctor there are prescription medications that can treat this - but, because results vary so widely, you must see a doctor and get a prescription. A good doctor will find you the right treatment.

This is not an allergy and it is not just dry skin. See a dermatologist.

Reply:I'm not so sure.... maybe a rash or just irritation. try vaseline overnite and since your eyes will be closed... don't wory about it getting in your eyes. good luck!!
