Just got a skin graft and its itching like crazy,what does this mean?

i got a skin graft yesterday and today it is itching like crazy,does anyone know what it means? infection,healing? and any ideas on what i should do to keep my mind off it because its driving me crazy not being able to itch it!

Good sign. my mum is a nurse and says dont itch it or it will scar. Just try to focus on something other than the itch. Like ____ (you fill in the blank).

Reply:I think it means it's healing. I would keep it moisturized with something, and I might lean toward a vitamin E oil. But I think I would ask my doctor what product he would recommend.
Reply:It's most likely healing...but resist the urge to scratch or you could cause an infection...if it gets red/swollen see your doctor asap. As for keeping your mind off of it...just bite the bullet and try to keep yourself busy doing something...Good Luck.

Reply:yes its healing. if its an infection. it would hurt due to inflammation. you could go to your doc for some cream to help ease the itch.


i know econazole cream is sometimes used in cases like this but better ask your doc before doing anything especially for a delicate matter like skin drafting.


keep your graft area clean and dry to prevent infection!

Reply:I have always heard when it itches it means healing. I would ask my Dr. for something. He can prescribe a pill for the itching. Good luck.
